What a let down Saturday against Sporting KC. Although we ended up with a draw, it felt like a loss. It felt terrible. In a matter of minutes, we went from the highest of highs with Chris Wondolowski converting a one-touch goal on a beautiful cross by Steven Beitashour to the lowest of lows after surrendering a lightning-quick goal by Teal Bunbury.
The result summed up our entire season. The team gave its all for 85 minutes and was rewarded with a great chance and conversion by Wondo for his 12th goal this season, but then we couldn’t close out the match. What a frustrating roller coaster ride of emotions for everyone involved both on and off the pitch.
There were some bright spots. I thought that Beitashour's incredible kick save in the 20th minute probably avoided a loss and really showed some tremendous athleticism. Wondolowksi's goal moved him past Landon Donovan to No. 2 on the club’s all-time goals list – congratulations to Chris on another spectacular season. Finally, I was impressed with the excitement of the fifth straight sellout crowd and the electricity created by the madcap antics of both Krazy George and The Jester.

On the new stadium front, we are working hard towards finalizing the PD Permit through the city process. This is a critical step in making the stadium a reality. We had a productive meeting with the community last Monday and we look forward to working together with all stakeholders to make the new stadium a win-win for everyone. Finalizing this PD permit will give us a much better idea of what type of stadium can be constructed on this site, the types of usage, and the final cost. As part of that process, we released some additional drawings of the stadium. I have included one of the photos here in my blog for folks to check out.
I know some folks were concerned that there would be obstructed views with the roof and its construction and some of the various photos submitted to the city had some support beams. Folks should know that we are moving forward with a cantilevered roof that will not have any beams to block our excellent sight lines.
October will be a busy month with additional city meetings to finalize the PD Permit. We will continue to keep our fans posted on our progress. Thanks again for everyone's support.
