Kaval's Kickoff: Eventful preseason in San Jose

Kaval's Kickoff New Image

It has been an eventful several weeks for the Quakes. First of all, the City of San Jose has scheduled the Planning Commission appeal hearing for Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall in the council chamber (MAP). I cannot stress enough how important it is for Quakes Nation to represent themselves in a professional and positive manner at this meeting. This is our opportunity to demonstrate the broad base of support for a permanent home for the club.

I know that folks have been frustrated over the years about the slow process on the stadium. This is your chance to contribute to advancing the project by attending the meeting, wearing your Quakes gear and, if comfortable, commenting in the public part of the hearing about what the Quakes mean to you and our community. I want to thank everyone in advance for all of their support at this critical juncture for the club. It really makes a big difference.

On the pitch, John Doyle and Frank Yallop made a great addition with the signing of a true No. 10 in Tressor Moreno. His creativity in the midfield is something that the team has lacked for quite some time. This will give us a player who can run the offense and create opportunities for our forwards. Prior to his time in Chile, Moreno had a distinguished three years for San Luis with memorable goals as well as a distinctive style that earned him fans across Mexico and beyond.

The Moreno signing is the end result of our collective efforts over the past six months to revamp our international player procurement process. By adding additional technology like Wyscout as well as a full time video analyst, we were able to identify Moreno as the type of player that could fill a big need for us. After targeting him, we flew him to San Jose to make sure we could see him first hand. This allowed our entire coaching staff to see him interact with our existing team as well as evaluate his fitness and general health. Only then did we move forward with the contract. We are excited to have Tressor on board and feel that he can be a great piece of the puzzle that will lead us toward another MLS Cup.
