Quakes reserves host Chivas USA on May 14

The San Jose Earthquakes reserves host Chivas USA in an MLS Reserve League match on Monday, May 14. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at the Earthquakes Training Facility in San Jose. Admission is free.


The Quakes reserves (1-1-1, 4 pts.) played to a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy at The Home Depot Center last Tuesday, May 8, as the two West Division rivals traded first-half goals from the penalty spot. Sercan Guvenisik opened the scoring by converting his attempt in the 31st minute following a hand ball called against the Galaxy, with the home side equalizing five minutes later through a Marcelo Sarvas spot kick.


San Jose previously edged the Portland Timbers, 1-0, and lost to Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2-1, to begin their 10-game Reserve League slate.


The Chivas USA reserves (1-1-0, 3 pts.) have split two high-scoring affairs in Los Angeles to date, and are coming off of a 4-3 home defeat to Seattle Sounders FC on April 23. Goals by Laurent Courtois and veteran Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel from a penalty kick bookended a pair of Sounders tallies as the sides were deadlocked at 2-2 at the halftime break. Following the interval, top draft pick Casey Townsend scored in the 59th minute off an assist by Angel to give the Goats a 3-2 edge. The hosts were unable to hold on, however, surrendering goals in the 62nd and 70th minutes as Seattle produced the comeback victory.


Chivas USA had earlier posted a 4-2 triumph over the LA Galaxy on April 2.


Following Monday’s match, the Quakes reserves next play the reverse fixture against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on Friday, June 8, beginning at 11 a.m.


The final two home dates for the Earthquakes reserves are Aug. 12 and Sept. 4. All home matches are scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. at the Earthquakes Training Facility (1125 Coleman Avenue). Reserve League games in San Jose are open to the public and free of charge.
