Wondolowski named MLS Player of the Month

Chris Wondolowski vs LA Galaxy

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski was named MLS Player of the Month for June by members of the North American Soccer Reporters on Thursday, the fourth time he has won the award in his career and second time this season.

Wondolowski joins elite company with Clint Mathis (2000), Carlos Ruiz (2002), Landon Donovan (2003) and Juan Pablo Angel (2007) as the only two-time winners of the award in the same season.

The Danville native scored three game winners in as many contests during his run through June. His clutch scoring helped San Jose to a 3-0-0 slate in the month, including key road wins in Colorado and Real Salt Lake as well as the recent edition of the California Clasico against the LA Galaxy – three clubs that are now currently in the top six of the conference.

Wondolowski’s contributions have placed the Earthquakes atop both the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield tables with an 11-4-3 record, all while the club also navigated the US Open Cup Fourth Round and Quarterfinals.

The Major League Soccer Player of the Week and Month honors are selected during the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from The North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at www.soccerreporters.com.
