Earthquakes to livestream new logo unveil using Google Glass

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will take a true Silicon Valley approach to their new logo and jersey unveiling tonight at San Pedro Square Market by livestreaming the event using the Google Glass application CrowdOptic.

Video and audio of the event will be available throughout the evening at www.sjearthquakes.com. The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. PT with speeches from club president Dave Kaval and San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. Following the speeches, the Earthquakes will introduce their new logo in dazzling fashion with a special presentation using additional technology and the surrounding environment.

Tonight’s event is free to attend and includes a live concert following the logo unveiling with The Forgotten and The Old Firm Casuals. The party kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT with player Q&As to follow at 5:45 and 6:10.

The Earthquakes will use CrowdOptic to livestream the event through a Google+ Hangout on Air. CrowdOptic’s technology (U.S. Patent No. 8,527,340) uses sensor data from electronic devices and archival media file metadata to calculate user sightlines and sightline intersections. Significant groups of these intersections, called “clusters,” power a range of capabilities using the CrowdOptic platform.

The Earthquakes have been at the forefront of sports innovation in recent years. Kaval documented the club’s 2014 MLS SuperDraft experience using Google Glass. San Jose also partnered with yorder ahead of the 2011 season, allowing fans to order concessions from their seat using a mobile phone app. Additionally, Kaval maintains a blog on www.sjearthquakes.com and regularly interacts with fans through office hours, Twitter and Tumblr.
