The Earthquakes and Whitecaps FC are set to play their 40th anniversary match at BC Place on Saturday. The Earthquakes, who will officially celebrate their 40th anniversary on May 10, first traveled to Vancouver on May 5,1974 for their first match in club history. The Quakes ended up beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 in penalties. Mani Hernandez scored the first goal in history for the club on that historic day.

The Earthquakes extended their home-unbeaten streak to 14 games with a 0-0 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in front of a sold out crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Earthquakes pressed the action for most of the evening, out-shooting their guests 22-14. They had several golden chances to score, including a close-range blast from Clarence Goodson in the 19th minute that darted high over the crossbar. In the second half, Chris Wondolowski nearly opened the scoring with a flick off a Sam Cronin free kick, but Whitecaps FC goalkeeper David Ousted positioned himself perfectly to snare the shot.

Busch Approaching 1,000 Saves Milestone
Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is four saves away from becoming the seventh goalkeeper in league history to reach 1,000 career saves. He made 367 saves with Columbus from 2002-06, 240 with Chicago from 2007-09 and has 389 since joining the Earthquakes at the start of the 2010 season. Busch is among the top goalkeepers in MLS history, ranking fourth all-time in shutouts with 78 and seventh all-time with 105 wins.
