Avaya Stadium to host Monarcas Morelia & Xolos Tijuana friendly

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that Avaya Stadium will host an international friendly between Monarcas de Morelia and Xolos de Tijuana of Liga MX in Mexico on Sunday, January 3. It marks the second contest in a series of Copa Nissan matches that brings the top soccer clubs from Liga MX to the United States.

Monarcas Morelia nearly qualified for the Liga MX playoffs and have continued to strengthen its roster while Xolos of Tijuana are bringing significant player reinforcements for next season under the new leadership of Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera.  This will be the first match for the former Mexican National Team head coach with Xolos as well as the first time that the team will travel to play a match in Northern California. Azteca America will televise the match in the United States.

Tickets start at $25 for adults and $15 for all kids 12 years of age and under.  Starting at noon on match day and leading up to kickoff, fans will be able to enjoy a Mexican Soccer Festival that will include live music, entertainment and interactive sponsor activations.

Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders will have a special presale opportunity on December 2, before tickets go on sale to the general public on December 3 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, as well as all Ticketmaster outlets, including select Chavez Supermarkets and Walmart stores.
