Last Game vs. FC Dallas
Earthquakes 2, FC Dallas 2; April 9, 2016; Toyota Stadium, Frisco, Texas
The San Jose Earthquakes took a well-earned first away point of the season in a 2-2 draw at former Western Conference leaders FC Dallas. Goals from winger Alberto Quintero and striker Chris Wondolowski, the latter’s fourth in five games this season, gave the Quakes 1-0 and 2-1 leads. However, Dallas got goals from forward Tesho Akindele and an own goal from San Jose defender Victor Bernardez to earn the draw. The Quakes opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Forward Quincy Amarikwa took a quick throw-in at the halfway line to winger Simon Dawkins, who then played a return, slide-rule pass down the touchline. Amarikwa hit a low ball across the face of the goal and Quintero, just inside the area, connected on the volley with the outside of his right boot. The ball scorched past the despairing dive of FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seltz and into the top-right corner of the net for the Panamanian’s first goal for the club. The hosts equalized on 36 minutes when San Jose defender Shaun Francis tangled with Ryan Hollingshead in the box and was whistled for a foul. Tesho Akindele converted the resulting spot-kick, driving his shot down the middle as Bingham dived to his left. On 55 minutes the Earthquakes went back in front. Amarikwa cut in from the left and played a pass between two defenders for Wondolowski who swept the ball into the bottom right corner with a first-time effort from his left foot, just inside the area. Wondolowski now has four goals on the season. FC Dallas equalized less than 10 minutes later when Bernardez inadvertently headed Fabian Castillo’s cross into his own goal from close range with two Dallas attackers rushing into the box.
