Match Preview: Young players look to step up tonight vs. Portland

Victor Bernardez - San Jose Earthquakes - 060116

Kickoff
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Providence Park. It marks the third matchup this season between the Earthquakes and Timbers, with each team earning a win on their home turf in the first two games.

Broadcast Information
The game will be aired live on CSN California, 1590 KLIV (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
A Chance for Young Players to Step Up
The Earthquakes lineup against the Timbers will be drastically different than the one that faced them in March and April. Defenders Kip Colvey and Clarence Goodson, midfielders Anibal Godoy, Alberto Quintero and Simon Dawkins, as well as the Earthquakes’ leading scoring Chris Wondolowski will all be unavailable for the match, opening the door for young players to make their mark in the starting XI.

Searching for Number Four
The Earthquakes are searching for their first four-game unbeaten streak of the season after securing a scoreless draw against FC Dallas Saturday. The last time they did not suffer a loss in four straight matches was in August of last season, when they went on a torrid 4-0-0 run with four shutouts.

Looking to Finish Strong Heading into Break
The match marks the Earthquakes final game heading into the international break, with their next game coming on Saturday, June 18 against Orlando City SC. A win would move the Quakes to 6-3-5, which is their best start since 2012 when they went 9-3-3 to begin the season.
Starting XI Changes for Portland
The Earthquakes will face a different Portland starting XI than their previous two matchups, with goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey out until July with a finger injury and midfielder Darlington Nagbe called up to international duty for the United States National Team.
