Wondo Due for a Goal
After scoring seven goals in the Earthquakes’ first eight games this season, forward Chris Wondolowski has been held scoreless in his last six appearances. The last time the Earthquakes captain was kept off the scoreboard in seven straight was in 2010, so the odds of him finding the net are in his favor.
Toronto Missing Pieces
Toronto will be without several key pieces in their starting XI due to injury, which bodes well for San Jose. Midfielder Michael Bradley will be out of action due to a knee sprain and midfielder Will Johnson won’t be available due to a tibial plateau fracture. Bradley recorded an assist in Toronto FC’s last matchup against the Quakes.
Crossing the Border
The match against Toronto FC marks the first for the Earthquakes against a Canadian team this season. San Jose has gone undefeated at home against teams from north of the border in their last 11 games (3-0-8), with their last loss coming against Toronto on May 29, 2010 at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Familiar Faces
Both teams have members who are familiar with their opponents. Several current Earthquakes players including Chad Barrett, Marvell Wynne and Quincy Amarikwa played for Toronto FC earlier in their careers. Toronto FC defender Justin Morrow and defender Steven Beitashour also donned an Earthquakes uniform in the past.
