Earthquakes midfielder Tommy Thompson has joined Fatai Alashe on the 2016 24 under 24 50-player short list, presented by EA Sports.
On Monday, Sept. 19, MLS will start their countdown of the top 24 young players in the league by unveiling 24-16. The list will continue to roll out with 15-11 on Tuesday, 10-6 on Wednesday and 1-5 on Thursday.
Thompson, 21, playing in his third season in San Jose, has made 10 appearances in 2016, three of which were starts. In addition, Thompson captained the 2016 Chipotle Homegrown side during July’s 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Week in San Jose. In 2015, Thompson made four starts in a career-high 17 appearances. The Loomis native was the club’s first homegrown signing back on Jan. 22, 2014.
Thompson has also enjoyed great success on loan with Sacramento Republic FC in 2016, recording three goals and three assist in 11 appearances. On Aug. 23, Thompson was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 22 following a goal and an assist against Portland Timbers 2.
