QUOTE SHEET: Quakes give their instant reaction to defeat in Montreal

Alberto Quintero - Kick - 092816

HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On hope for the playoffs:
“Hope is always there. It is pretty bleak with four games left. We have to go on a great run and everyone else has to play terrible. That is going to be a difficult one for us. I was happy with the way our team responded in the second half. I thought we were excellent in the second half and gave a good response. Montreal, with a 2-0 lead, sat in the back and our guys gave a tremendous effort and played well. When that penalty kick was saved it was a down force, but there is always hope. There is a ray of hope out there, and we will be looking for it.”
On adjustments made in the second half:
“We had more energy getting forward. I thought we a bit slow getting out which made it difficult for us to pass out of pressure. We made boo-boos in the back and when you give good players like [Ignacio] Piatti some good opportunities close to your goal, he is not going to make a mess out of any of them.”

MIDFIELDER TOMMY THOMPSON

On the team’s response in the second half:
“I thought the team responded really well going in two-nil down. We had our chances throughout the game and after the penalty was given I honestly thought we were going to get the three points. Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way. We have to move on from this and focus on the next game.”
On not finishing chances:
“The whole second half we battered them. Even in the last 10 minutes of the first half we had some really good chacnes. I thought we were going to put a few away. Like I said, the ball wasn’t going in the back of the net.”

MIDFEILDER CORDELL CATO

On the performance:
“I think it was a good performance, but obviously not enough. Going down two-nil away from home, against any team, is a difficult task to come back from. We did well coming out in the second half, pressuring, getting a goal back and getting a penalty but unfortunately we missed.”
On possession based style:
“Having the players that we have, we all like having the ball so keeping possession was something that was installed from the pre-season. We didn’t create enough chances and we didn’t stop the couple of chances they had. That cost us the game.”
