NEWS: Nortec Collective to Perform at Avaya Stadium on May 27

SAN JOSE, Calif. –
The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that Mexican electronic group Nortec Collective will perform in the 7UP Epicenter at Avaya Stadium prior to the Quakes match against the LA Galaxy on May 27. Fans can enter the stadium at 4:30 p.m. and watch the Grammy-nominated group perform ahead of the 6:45 p.m. PT game against the Galaxy broadcast on Univision. The match is presented by Wells Fargo and the first 10,000 fans that enter the stadium will receive a Quakes Cali Clasico hat.


Nortec Collective formed in Tijuana, Mexico and throughout the years has performed at major festivals, including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Austin City Limits and Glastonbury. The group has a unique style of music coined “Nortec” that combines electronic music with traditional forms of Mexican music. The album Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 3 received Latin Grammy nominations in 2006 for Best Alternative Album and Best Album Package Design. Nortec Collective was also nominated for the Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album at the 51st Grammy Awards for the 2008 album Tijuana Sound Machine.
Nortec Collective comes to Avaya Stadium as part of the MLS Summer Beat series, a league-wide initiative to celebrate the close connection between music and soccer. San Jose is one of three markets selected to host the summer series, accompanied by Atlanta and Seattle.
The performance is one of several activities planned for the LA match at Avaya Stadium on May 27. The Quakes will also host a beer fest, a screening of the Mexico vs. Croatia friendly and the Special Olympics Unified Game. Starting at 4:30 p.m., fans can partake in a beer tasting in a beer garden set up in the 7UP Epicenter and watch the Mexico vs. Croatia friendly on the video board. A portion of all ticket sales for the beer fest will go to the Quakes Foundation and Special Olympics of Northern California as following the match the Quakes Special Olympics Unified Team will face the Galaxy’s unified squad on the Avaya Stadium field.
