Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports Radio show host Colin Cowherd praised the Bay Area last week’s edition of ‘The Herd’, where he referred to the region as “the greatest concentration of brilliance in North America.”

The discussion began with how the Golden State Warriors have created an innovative style of play that gives them a competitive advantage and resulted in three consecutive NBA Finals appearances. But as Cowherd dove deeper, he explained that he wasn’t surprised by the Warriors’ success, given the market’s resources to draw from, also mentioning achievements by the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland A’s.

“The Bay Area keeps doing this in every single sport,” said Cowherd. “Moneyball, Bay Area. West Coast offense, Bay Area. Three ball, Bay Area.

“They’re smarter than where you live,” he added. “They are. And they keep doing it over and over – in basketball, in football, in baseball, in tech, in business. It’s the greatest concentration of brilliance in North America. High IQ’s. Evolved thinking.”

The Quakes have recently joined the list of Bay Area teams looking to win with an innovative mindset and unique thinking. General manager Jesse Fioranelli and Chief Operating Officer Jared Shawlee have led the movement, establishing an Innovation Advisory Board to stay on top of emerging technological trends, using in-depth video analysis to improve scouting, and establishing partnerships with organizations that raise the bar on data comprehension and understanding, among others.

The results from their efforts may not been seen immediately, but over time, the region’s vast resources of technology, intelligence and innovation should help the Earthquakes redefine what ‘normal’ in the world of soccer is.
