NEWS: Earthquakes Academy Midfielder Jean-Julien Foe Nuphaus Called to U.S. U-17 National Team Camp

JJ Academy - 2017

SAN JOSE, Calif.
– San Jose Earthquakes Academy midfielder/defender Jean-Julien Foe Nuphaus is among 24 players called to a nine-day United States U-17 National Team camp held at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon from Aug. 5-13.
The camp, which will serve as a preparation stage for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, marks the second domestic gathering for the U-17 MNT since they qualified for the World Cup at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship. The camp will include two friendlies against Chile, runners-up in the South American U-17 Championship earlier this year.
Foe Nuphaus, 17, has previously been called up by the United States at the U-15 and U-17 levels. A native of San Jose, he competed with the Earthquakes Academy from U-13 to U-16 prior to leaving for the Bundesliga’s TSG Hoffenheim in July 2016. He appeared in eight games for Hoffenheim’s U-17 squad before returning to San Jose this March.
“As we continue to prepare for the World Cup, our staff has put this roster together with the idea of keeping a core of the team together while still trying to give opportunities to players that we need to evaluate,” said head coach John Hackworth. “As I’ve said before, the talent in this age group is deep, so it is always a challenge to finalize the roster due to the competition for spots. We hope that drives both the individuals and group to train and compete at the highest level.”
The U.S. is set to kick off against host India on opening night of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup on October 6, followed by Group Stage matches with Ghana on Oct. 9 and Colombia on Oct. 12. The first two games will be played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, while the third will be played at Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
