MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
For History

Wednesday’s Open Cup matchup gives the Quakes a chance to advance to the finals of the historic tournament for the first time in club history.

Chance for Revenge

This will be just the second time the Quakes dispute a semifinal in the U.S. Open Cup. Their first time was in 2004 when they fell 1-0 to Sporting Kansas City, then known as the Kansas City Wizards.

Road Record

Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski is currently level with Landon Donovan for most goals scored on the road in MLS history (63). If he scores against Houston Dynamo, he will be sole possessor of the record.

Consistency Is Key

Wondolowski has scored at least 10 or more goals for the past seven MLS seasons, an MLS record he set. After scoring the game-winning goal against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, he is currently just one goal away from extending the record to an eight consecutive season.

Another Milestone

Wondo is 45 minutes away from reaching 22,000 career minutes MLS regular season play. Against Crew SC on Saturday, he reached 21,000 minutes played for the Earthquakes.

Team of the Week

Midfielder Tommy Thompson set up Wondo’s game-winning goal on Saturday and nearly scored one of his own if not for the top-left corner of the post. His performance earned him a place on the MLS Team of Week. Forward Marco Ureña, who opened the Quakes’ scoring on Saturday, was named to the Team of the Week bench.

RENO 1868 FC UPDATE

Reno 1868 FC’s six-game unbeaten streak in USL play came to an end as they fell 1-0 on the road to OKC Energy on Wednesday. However, the Quakes’ affiliate bounced back a few days later with a 3-2 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field. Reno currently leads USL with the most goals scored so far this season (49).

Reno’s high-powered offense returns home this week to take on San Antonio FC on Aug. 12. The Texan side currently leads the league defensively, recording a USL-high 11 shutouts and conceding a league-low 11 goals thus far. Kick off at Greater Nevada Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT. and the match will be broadcast live on uslsoccer.com.

QUAKES ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Boys’ Academy began practicing ahead of the 2017-18 USSDA season last week.

Down in San Diego, the Quakes U-14 Girls Development Academy side was crowned 2017 Surf Cup Champions last weekend. The girls went undefeated in the tournament en route to the final, outscoring their opponents 15 to 5. In the championship match, Andres Deza’s team fought back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Solar Chelsea 5-3.
