The Earthquakes begin a three-match road stretch on Wednesday, Aug. 23, when they travel to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake at 7 p.m. PT. The game will air live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and KZSF 1370.



The team will then make a trip down to Los Angeles to take on the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Aug. 27, in the final California Clasico of the regular season. Kickoff at the StubHub Center is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT and the match will be broadcast live on FS1, KNBR 1050 and KZSF 1370.


The Earthquakes have reserved a lower-level section next to the San Jose Ultras at the StubHub Center for fans who will be traveling down for the match. History of the Quakes – Real Salt Lake Rivalry

Real Salt Lake joined MLS as an expansion side prior to the 2005 campaign … The two teams played to a 2-2 draw in their first-ever meeting on April 30, 2005, at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, with Alejandro Moreno providing a late equalizer for San Jose … After going 2-0-2 over their first four MLS regular-season meetings, the Quakes dropped their first league tilt to RSL, 3-1, on May 31, 2008, at Rice-Eccles … The Quakes suffered two straight home defeats in league play in shutout fashion in back-to-back season openers in 2010 (3-0) and 2011 (1-0) … On March 19, the Quakes and RSL kicked off the 2011 season at Buck Shaw Stadium in a match later dubbed “The Great Deluge” as RSL took a 1-0 decision in a rainstorm through a 64th-minute Kyle Beckerman strike from 25 yards out that glanced off the left post and went in. That game marked Simon Dawkins’ MLS debut for the Quakes as a 66th-minute substitute … Real Salt Lake swept the 2011 season series with a 4-0 triumph in Utah on July 23 … The Quakes win against RSL on April 21, 2012 snapped a six-game winless streak in all competitions, including an 0-3-2 mark in the five prior MLS regular-season match-ups, and a loss via penalty-kick shootout in a 2010 US Open Cup play-in contest at Buck Shaw Stadium … The Quakes again beat RSL on June 23, 2012 by a 2-1 scoreline behind late goals from Alan Gordon and Chris Wondolowski for their first-ever win at RSL’s Rio Tinto Stadium …  RSL was the last Quakes opponent to play a regular-season match at Spartan Stadium, earning a 2-2 tie on Oct. 8, 2005 … San Jose was 3-0-0 against RSL in 2012, outscoring them 9-2 in the process … The Earthquakes dropped their first two games of 2013 against RSL, losing 2-0 on March 3 at Buck Shaw Stadium and 3-0 on June 1 at Rio Tinto Stadium, but bounced back for a key 2-1 win at Rio Tinto on Sept. 21 thanks to a brace from Steven Lenhart … The San Jose Earthquakes rallied from a two-goal first-half deficit to tie Real Salt Lake 3-3 in the club’s 2014 MLS opener on Saturday, March 15 at Buck Shaw Stadium … Sam Cronin scored for the second time in as many games to lead the Earthquakes to a 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, Aug. 30 … The Earthquakes were defeated by Real Salt Lake by a score of 2-0 on October 11, 2014 at Rio Tinto Stadium … San Jose was defeated by Real Salt Lake 1 – 0 on April 5, 2015 at Avaya Stadium … The Quakes earned a road point against Real Salt Lake with a 1-1 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium on May 1, 2015 … San Jose defeated RSL 1-0 at Avaya Stadium in their final matchup of 2015 thanks in large part to a late goal by Matias Perez Garcia … The Quakes and Real Salt Lake drew 1-1 in their first meeting of 2016 on July 22 … The Quakes defeated RSL 2-1 at Avaya Stadium with goals from Simon Dawkins and Fatai Alashe on Oct. 1, 2016 … Picking up where they left off, the Quakes prevailed with another 2-1 victory over Salt Lake on June 24, 2017 at Avaya Stadium.


Earthquakes – RSL Connections

Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski played with RSL midfielder Kyle Beckerman for the U.S. Men’s National Team during the 2016 Copa America Centenario … Wondolowski also played with Beckerman and RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando for the USMNT in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil … Rimando (1997-99) and RSL defender Tony Beltran (2006-07), as well as Quakes defender Marvell Wynne (2004-05) and Quakes midfielder Jackson Yueill (2015-16) played collegiately at UCLA … Wondolowski has also played alongside RSL defender Beltran with the USMNT … Earthquakes midfielder Simon Dawkins and RSL midfielder Luke Mulholland were both born in England … RSL defender Aaron Maund and forward Joao Plata were teammates with Quakes forward Quincy Amarikwa at Toronto FC in 2012.

The San Jose Earthquakes came from behind to defeat the LA Galaxy 2-1 at Stanford Stadium in front of 50,617 fans with Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski and midfielder Shea Salinas each tallying goals. With the result, the Quakes are now undefeated in five of the six California Clasicos at Stanford Stadium (4-1-1) and have come back in all four wins. The Galaxy opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Jelle Van Damme, but Wondolowski equalized the match in the 75th minute from goalkeeper David Bingham’s assist, scoring his ninth career goal against LA. Bingham’s assist was the second of the goalkeeper’s career, having previously assisted another Wondolowski goal in his MLS debut on Oct. 8, 2011 against the New England Revolution. Salinas secured the victory for the Quakes in the final moments of the match, finding the back of the net in the third minute of stoppage time. This is the second time that Salinas has scored in injury time in a California Clasico at Stanford Stadium, previously scoring in 2013’s 3-2 comeback victory. Earthquakes midfielder Jackson Yueill earned his first MLS start and midfielder Lindo Mfeka made his MLS debut, entering the match as a substitute in stoppage time. Watch highlights


History of the Quakes – Galaxy Rivalry

As the two original MLS teams in California, the Earthquakes (then known as the Clash) and the Galaxy met for the first time on April 28, 1996, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. In front of a crowd of 40,347, the Clash fell to the Galaxy, 2-1 … From 1996-2005, the in-state rivals matched up more than any other teams in the league … Along with playing each other 62 times in the regular season, the Quakes and the Galaxy have also faced off 10 times in the postseason and five times in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup … The teams squared off in the playoffs in 1996, 2003 and 2005, as well as the 2001 MLS Cup … The Galaxy captured the 1996 conference semifinal series, two games to one, taking the final two contests at the Rose Bowl by identical scores of 2-0 … In 2001, the sides met in the MLS Cup, with the Quakes producing a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph at Columbus Crew Stadium as Dwayne De Rosario scored the winner in overtime … The 2003 Western Conference Semifinal series produced one of the most memorable games in league history. After dropping the road leg of a two-game set, 2-0, San Jose fell behind by that same score after just 13 minutes of the home return to trail the series 4-0 on aggregate. The Quakes responded with a four-goal explosion in regulation to level the aggregate, 4-4, getting the fourth from Chris Ronér in the 90th minute just moments after he had come into the game. Fellow second-half substitute Rodrigo Faria then struck six minutes into sudden-death overtime to send San Jose to the Western Conference Finals, and ultimately its second MLS Cup … In 2005, having lost the first leg of the Western Conference Semifinals 3-1 at The Home Depot Center, the Quakes needed another two-goal comeback to win the series. After going up 1-0 on a Brian Ching goal in Game 2 on Oct. 29, 2005, Ned Grabavoy scored for the Galaxy to end the Quakes’ hopes. That match marked the Quakes’ final game before the team was relocated to Houston on Dec. 15, 2005 … Since returning to MLS in 2008, the Quakes and Galaxy have had a number of memorable matches … The sides played to a scoreless draw in front of what was a Buck Shaw record crowd of 10,872 on June 25, 2011 with the Quakes unable to find a goal despite out-shooting the Galaxy, 25-8, and playing with a man advantage for 47 minutes … The return fixture in Carson resulted in a 2-0 victory for LA as Robbie Keane scored the winner on his MLS debut … The Earthquakes were 2-0-1 against the Galaxy in 2012, rallying from two-goal deficits to knock off their Southern California rival on May 23, 3-2, at The Home Depot Center and June 30, 4-3, in front of 50,391 at Stanford Stadium … San Jose again came from behind in their final regular season meeting of 2012, equalizing a pair of one-goal deficits for a 2-2 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium … After defeating the Galaxy 1-0 in the first leg of Western Conference Semifinals, the Quakes dropped the second match at Buck Shaw Stadium 3-1 and were eliminated from the postseason … The 2013 California Clasico got off to a lively start as the Earthquakes rallied from a 2-1 deficit while playing a man down with goals from Shea Salinas and Alan Gordon in second-half stoppage time, making San Jose the first team in league history to accomplish that feat … The Galaxy won the two teams’ next meeting in 2013 with a 3-0 rout on Aug. 31 at the StubHub Center thanks to a goal from Landon Donovan and a brace by Robbie Keane … The Earthquakes dropped a 1-0 result to the Galaxy in their first meeting of 2014, a match that drew a sold-out crowd of 50,006 … Newly signed designated player Matias Perez Garcia and U.S. National Team forward Chris Wondolowski both scored in the first half to help the Earthquakes earn a valuable road point with a 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center on Aug. 8 … In their third meeting of 2014, the Earthquakes tied the LA Galaxy 1-1 at Buck Shaw Stadium on Sept. 14, thanks to a second half goal from Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski … In their first regular season meeting of 2015, the San Jose Earthquakes defeated the LA Galaxy 3-1 in the  California Clasico at Stanford Stadium in front of a sellout crowd of 50,422 … The Quakes fell to the Galaxy 1-0 in the Round of 16 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Avaya Stadium on July 1, 2015 … Although the Earthquakes’ newly acquired forward Quincy Amarikwa scored the first two goals of the match, San Jose was defeated 5-2 at the StubHub Center on July 17, 2015 … The Earthquakes defeated LA for the second time in the 2015 season in their first MLS meeting at Avaya Stadium on August 28 … In their first matchup of 2016, San Jose fell to LA 3-1 at the StubHub Center after the Quakes went down to 10 men just prior to halftime … The Earthquakes drew 1-1 with the Galaxy on the road in their second meeting, thanks in part to Fatai Alashe’s late equalizing header … The 2016 series concluded with a 1-1 draw between the two sides at Stanford Stadium on June 25, 2016. Chad Barrett scored in the 90th minute to rescue a point for San Jose … San Jose hosted the Galaxy in the first Clasico of 2017 on May 27, falling 4-2 at Avaya Stadium … In their second encounter, the Earthquakes defeated the Galaxy 2-1 thanks to a last-gasp goal from Shea Salinas at Stanford Stadium.

RENO 1868 FC UPDATE

Reno 1868 FC came from behind to defeat Sacramento Republic FC 2-1 on Saturday night. On-loan Quakes players Matt Bersano, Lindo Mfeka and Marc Pelosi all took part in the match for Reno.


The Quakes affiliate returns to action on Saturday, Aug. 26, when they take on Swope Park Rangers at home. Kickoff at Greater Nevada Field is set for 7:30 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on uslsoccer.com.


QUAKES ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Academy enter this week after a successful weekend, with U-12s, U-13s, U-14s and U-15s all earning sliding victories against Ballistic United SC and East Bay United.


The Quakes Academy will now play their final weekend of preseason. The U-13s and U-14s will head to Southern California to play a combined six games. On Saturday, U-13s will take on LAFC at 10 a.m. and the LA Galaxy San Diego at 6:30 p.m., while the U-14s will face the Xolos at noon and the Pateadores at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the U-13s will face the Pateadores at 10 a.m. and the U-14s will face LAFC at 10 a.m.


The U-17s and U-19s also have a busy weekend, participating in the Alianza de Fútbol Player Showcase.
