FEATURE: Reno 1868 FC wins fifth-consecutive match, moves closer to USL goals record

Reno 1868’s historic inaugural season just keeps getting better and better.

Head coach Ian Russell and his side won their fifth-consecutive USL match Saturday night in a convincing 3-1 win against Orange County SC at the Champions Soccer Stadium.

With the win in Southern California, Reno moves into third place in the Western Conference and maintains its place as the hottest team in the country. They're now just 13 points away from clinching a USL playoff berth.

Quakes goalkeeper Matt Bersano started and tallied four saves, while midfielder Lindo Mfeka started and played 68 minutes for Reno in Saturday’s win.

Reno has an opportunity to cement their name in the record books in just their first-ever USL campaign. With 57 goals on the year, 1868 FC just needs five more tallies to surpass last season’s Red Bulls II side for the most goals scored in a USL season.

San Jose’s affiliate now travels to Carson for a midweek bout with the LA Galaxy II Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
