Earthquakes Announce Roster Moves Ahead of 2018 MLS Season

The San Jose Earthquakes announced that the club has exercised 2018 contract options on five players: goalkeepers Matt Bersano and Andrew Tarbell, and midfielders Fatai Alashe, Darwin Ceren and Anibal Godoy. The Earthquakes will not exercise options on seven players: defenders Victor Bernardez and Kip Colvey, midfielders Cordell Cato, Lindo Mfeka, Marc Pelosi and Matheus Silva, and forward Danny Hoesen. The following players are under contract for the 2018 season: defenders Francois Affolter, Harold Cummings, Nick Lima and Florian Jungwirth, midfielders Simon Dawkins, Jahmir Hyka, Shea Salinas, Tommy Thompson, Vako and Jackson Yueill, and forwards Quincy Amarikwa, Marco Ureña and Chris Wondolowski. Earthquakes Hire Mikael Stahre as Head Coach, Announce Additional Changes to Technical Staff

The San Jose Earthquakes announced Mikael Stahre as head coach on Friday, Nov. 24. Stahre brings 11 years of head coaching experience in top European leagues to San Jose. Chris Leitch and Alex Covelo, who spent the final four months of the 2017 season as head coach and assistant coach, respectively, will return to their roles as technical director and director of methodology. Reno 1868 FC Forward Dane Kelly Named 2017 USL MVP

Reno 1868 FC (Earthquakes’ USL affiliate club) forward Dane Kelly was named the USL’s Most Valuable Player on Wednesday, Nov. 22 after leading the league with 18 goals, winning the Golden Boot and earning a spot on the USL’s All-League First Team. Kelly’s 18 goals during the regular season was also good for second-most in league history. Kelly’s strong scoring spree helped Reno become the top-scoring team in America (75 goals) and set a new USL record for most goals in a single season.


Reno 1868 FC Midfielder Chris Wehan Named USL Rookie of The Year

Reno 1868 FC (Earthquakes’ USL affiliate club) midfielder Chris Wehan was named USL Rookie of the Year on Tuesday Nov. 21. Wehan led USL with 12 assists (tying a USL record), added eight goals and created 66 chances (third in the USL) throughout the regular season. In addition to Rookie of the Year, Wehan was also named to the USL’s All-League First Team. He was named the league’s assist champion in October.


Earthquakes Academy Midfielder Gilbert Fuentes Named to U.S. U-17 MNT Roster for 2017 Men’s Nike International Friendlies

San Jose Earthquakes Academy midfielder Gilbert Fuentes was among 24 players called to the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team by head coach John Hackworth for the 2017 Men’s Nike International Friendlies in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. that runs from Nov. 29 through Dec. 3. Fuentes, 15, plays for the Earthquakes’ U-19 Academy squad and most recently represented the U.S. at the CONCACAF U-15 Championship, where they reached the final.
