2017 SEASON REVIEW: Andrew Tarbell

With the 2017 season officially in the books, the San Jose Earthquakes have plenty to be proud of on and off the field. A trip to the postseason for the first time in five years and a spot in the U.S. Open Cup semis for the first time since 2004 highlight the calendar year.

Let’s takes a look at how individuals on the team fared this year and how they impacted the club.

In his second season with the club, Quakes goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell proved invaluable as both a backup and a starter during the club’s first playoff season since 2012.

Tarbell, 24, was nominated for MLS Save of the Week five separate times in 2017 and took home the award twice after standout performances in Toronto and Houston.

Thrust into starting XI during the club’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run, the second-year goalkeeper blossomed, posting an impressive 11-save effort in the tournament’s semifinal match against Sporting KC.

After leading the club through the U.S. Open Cup, Tarbell got the nod as the starter, helping ignite a run to San Jose’s first playoff appearance in five seasons.

In total, the former Clemson Tiger finished the season with 11 starts and 41 saves in 1036 minutes.
