NEWS: Earthquakes Host Minnesota United FC in Home Opener on March 3

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Major League Soccer today announced the home openers for all clubs for the 2018 season. The San Jose Earthquakes will host Minnesota United FC at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Quakes’ matchup with Minnesota will be the last of six contests on Major League Soccer’s opening day.


The Earthquakes are coming off a 2017 season in which they reached the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2012 and the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time since 2004. The Quakes hold a 23-8-16 MLS record at Avaya Stadium all-time, including a 9-2-5 record in 2017.

With Los Angeles Football Club set to kick off their inaugural season in 2018, MLS now features 12 teams in the Western Conference, including San Jose, and 11 in the Eastern Conference. Each club will play 34 games, including 17 home games and 17 away games. Teams will face each of their conference opponents twice during the season, with one game at home and one game away. Western Conference teams will play one additional intra-conference game and Eastern Conference teams will play two. All teams will face each non-conference opponent once. 


The complete regular season schedule, along with the national television schedules for the U.S. and Canada, will be announced in January.
