With the primary black color scheme with the blue impact pattern, the jersey gave San Jose a fierce look this year as they reached the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Before the season even began and the following excitement ensued, the jersey made its first public appearance at the unveil party at San Pedro Square Market on Feb. 16, 2017, waiting for memories to be made in it.

The jersey itself and the party marked a pair of distant firsts for the Quakes: the first black jersey since 2013 and the first season kickoff event since 2014.

Fritz Montana, a local blues rock band, performed and eight Quake players sported the jersey on the stage in the market’s hall. David Bingham, Darwin Ceren, Harold Cummings, Andres Imperiale, Nick Lima, Shea Salinas, Tommy Thompson and Jackson Yueill attended the event, and following the grand unveiling, signed autographs and snapped pictures in the Quakes photo booth with fans.
