NEWS: Earthquakes Homegrown Defender Nick Lima Called to U.S. National Team

Nick Lima - USMNT - January Camp

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown defender Nick Lima is among 30 players called by U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Dave Sarachan for the annual January Camp. Players will report to the National Training Center in Carson, Calif. on Jan. 10.

Lima, 23, joined the Earthquakes on a Homegrown Player contract ahead of the 2017 season. During his rookie campaign, he made 20 starts in 22 appearances for San Jose, tallying two goals and an assist. Despite sustaining an injury that cut his season short, Lima still finished fourth in voting for the MLS Rookie of the Year Award.

Some of the USA’s most promising young prospects are expected to be on display in the friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Jan. 28 at StubHub Center in Carson. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT, and the match will be broadcast live on FS1 and UniMas. Fans can also follow U.S. Soccer’s official Facebook, Twitter (@ussoccer) and Instagram (@ussoccer) accounts.

“We’re excited about our 2018 January Camp roster. It’s all about the future and opportunity,” said Sarachan. “We clearly feel that we want to have a look at these players that have the chance to be a part of the National Team for a number of years to come. It’s a long journey forward, but this is the first step starting in 2018 for the program and for these players to now get experience at this level.”
