QUAKES NOTES: What to know around the club this week

San Jose Earthquakes players reported to Avaya Stadium for the first day of preseason today, kicking off 2018.  This week, the Earthquakes will host an open training session, complete with the Black and Blue Scrimmage, on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 12 p.m., open to Season Pass Holders only. Tickets to the match, while complimentary, should be claimed via the Earthquakes Account Manager.

Earthquakes to Host Media Day on Wednesday, Jan. 24
The San Jose Earthquakes will host their annual Media Day on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The team's first training session of 2018 will be open to the media, followed by player and coach availability. Media are invited to attend the club's training session by arriving at 11 a.m. Training is expected to conclude between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Film crews and photographers are welcome.

Earthquakes Acquire 21-Year Old Center Back Yeferson Quintana
The club has acquired Yeferson Quintana from Uruguayan power Peñarol on a season-long loan with an option to buy. During the 2017 season, Quintana tallied three goals and two assists in 29 appearances, helping his side win the championship with a 26-3-8 regular-season record. Peñarol had the league’s best defense, allowing just 26 goals in 37 games (.70 goals per game). Read the full story here.

Earthquakes Select Four Players in 2018 SuperDraft
The Earthquakes selected Florida International University defender Paul Marie in the first round (No. 12 overall) and UNLV’s Danny Musovski (No. 30) and University of Louisville’s Mohamed Thiaw (No. 35) in the second round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. The Earthquakes selected UNLV midfielder Kevin Partida in the third round (No. 58 overall) and passed in the fourth round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Get to know the players here.

Earthquakes Sign 20-Year-Old USYNT Midfielder Eric Calvillo
The Earthquakes signed Eric Calvillo from North American Soccer League’s New York Cosmos on a multi-year contract. Calvillo scored one goal in three appearances during his Championship-winning rookie season in 2016, and tallied three goals and one assist in 16 league appearances (13 starts) in 2017.
