NEWS: Earthquakes Announce Alan Ortega [CaliSCG] as Club’s Official eMLS Competitor

SAN JOSE, Calif – The San Jose Earthquakes have signed Alan Ortega, known for his gamertag CaliSCG, as the club’s first official eMLS competitor. Ortega will represent the Quakes in eMLS Cup, and compete against 18 other representatives from MLS clubs for a chance to qualify for the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series Playoff on the road to the FiFA eWorld Cup.

“It means so much to be the first eMLS player for the Earthquakes, and I am so grateful to be in this position,” said Ortega.  “I want to take advantage of this opportunity, and will practice as much as I can to bring the 2018 eMLS Cup to San Jose.”

Ortega, 24, is a Stockton, Calif. native and San Joaquin Delta College graduate. In 2017, he partnered with Twitch, the live streaming video platform for the gaming community, to become a fulltime, professional gamer. In November of last year, he competed against fellow North American streamers in the FIFA Twitch Cup, earning the silver medal.

Ortega has more than 39,000 followers on Twitch, and has used his platform to raise money for charitable efforts close to him. In 2016, he raised upwards of $1,500 with a livestream to help his former student from an afterschool program whose mother passed away from cancer. In December 2017, he played FIFA for 30 continuous hours to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, raising more than $4,000 for the organization.

He will officially begin to represent the Quakes at events beginning in March.

To keep up with Ortega as he represents the Quakes, fans can follow him via his Twitch account CaliSCG, on Twitter @CaliSCG, Instagram @ADAN_117 and his YouTube channel CaliSCGaming.

Announced on Jan. 12, the Quakes are one of 19 MLS clubs participating in eMLS in 2018: Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew SC, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy, Minnesota United FC, Montreal Impact, New England Revolution, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls, Orlando City SC, Philadelphia Union, Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC, Sporting Kansas City, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
