RECAP: Quakes, Timbers Play to Scoreless Draw in First Preseason Match of 2018

TUCSON, Ariz. - The San Jose Earthquakes officially opened their slate of 2018 preseason matches with a 0-0 draw against the Portland Timbers in Tucson, Ariz. on Wednesday morning. The match was the first of two for San Jose during their 10-day stay in the desert, with the second coming on Feb. 7 against RSL.


The match was divided into three 30-minute periods, with each portion of the contest featuring a different lineup. All 32 players currently with the Quakes featured during the 90 minutes.
Earthquakes goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell made the play of the game when he stopped Fanendo Adi's penalty in the third minute. He later made a fingertip save on a header by reigning league MVP Diego Valeri.


More than 10 Quakes players appeared in their first-ever match against an MLS side, including Designated Player Magnus Eriksson, center back Yeferson Quintana and the team's trio of recent Homegrown signings.
