NEWS: Earthquakes Announce Supporter Section Changes for 2018 Season

San Jose Earthquakes - San Jose Ultras

SAN JOSE, Calif. –
The San Jose Earthquakes announced today changes to the team’s supporters section for the 2018 season. The San Jose Ultras will move to field level and occupy the standing-only section known as the Supporters Terrace behind the south goal, moving the passionate fans to a more central location in the stadium. Fewer than 100 Season Passes are still available in the Supporters Terrace and are priced at $400.

“We are continuing to strengthen the relationship between the Front Office and the Ultras by being receptive to the group’s needs,” said Earthquakes Chief Operating Officer Jared Shawlee. “We truly believe that moving the Ultras to field level will allow them to feel a stronger connection to the players they are supporting and further enhance the overall stadium atmosphere for all of our fans.”

Many memorable goals have already been scored on the south end of the field, including Fatai Alashe’s inaugural goal vs. Chicago in 2015, Quincy Amarikwa’s long-range chip vs. Portland in 2016 and Marco Ureña’s playoff-clinching tally vs. Minnesota in 2017.

The Ultras’ previous sections, 117 and 118, will now be reserved seating instead of general admission. Season Passes in these two sections, located in the heart of the passion just above the Ultras, are available for $400, the lowest price for reserved seats in the stadium. Existing Supporters Terrace accounts can either remain there with the Ultras, relocate to 117/118, or relocate to any other designated seating option in the stadium, based on availability.  Existing Season Pass holders in 117/118 will be relocated to the Supporters Terrace, unless interest is expressed in relocating elsewhere.

"Comfortable seats and a great view of the play are every soccer fan's priority when attending a match. For us, the number one priority is to be able to provide our team with the best support possible, while putting a lot of pressure on the opposition,” said Dan Margarit, leader and founder of the San Jose Ultras. “At the end of the last season, we approached the new leadership of our Front Office and suggested that they revisit the idea of building a better supporter section behind the goal. They were very receptive to our ideas and suggestions. A few months later, they showed us the plans for a new section, which we believe will be a better place for us. We would like to welcome all Quakes fans who are willing to stand and chant for 90+ minutes to join us and help us create that atmosphere that any visiting team hates to play in. We are looking forward to spending our 15th year of supporting the Quakes in the new section and bringing back many of the elements that turned Buck Shaw Stadium into a fortress. "
