Quakes’ goal-scorers speak after Saturday night’s victory

The San Jose Earthquakes started their season on a high note with a 3-2 win in their home opener against Minnesota United FC. Standout performances from Danny Hoesen and Vako led the Quakes to their first win of the 2018 MLS regular season. Hoesen scored two goals and Vako tallied a goal and two assists to secure the victory. Here is what they had to say following the match:

EARTHQUAKES FORWARD DANNY HOESEN
On the team’s performance:

“It was great. The first half was very good. The last 20 minutes, not too good. We conceded two goals and made it hard for ourselves, but at the end, we’re happy with the three points.”

On being satisfied with his two goals:

“Of course. I want to score goals this year. I want to be important. I liked to start with two goals in the first game. It’s very nice.”

EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER VAKO

On his chemistry with Danny Hoesen:

“I know he is a goal scorer. I just got him the ball and he scored.”

On how he feels transitioning to the left side of the field from a more central position:

â€śI played some games at left winger with the national team and also for former clubs. It’s okay. I’m trying to come a little bit more inside, but it’s fine on the left side. With [head coach] Mikael [Stahre], I have freedom, a lot of space and I’m always trying to get free.”

On the last 15 minutes and how the team can improve going forward:

“We gave them a chance. The game was not finished yet. Most importantly, we won the game and got the three points.”

On being the main catalyst for the Quakes’ attack and having a hand in all three goals:

“I’m just trying to do my job and I am happy that I also had something in all three goals. I’ll try to continue like that.”
