NEWS: Earthquakes Midfielder Sophie Jones Called Up to Final U-17 WNT Camp

Sophie Jones - US Girls - 2017

Earthquakes Academy midfielder Sophie Jones has been called up to the U-17 Women’s National Team camp in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The 10 day camp will feature three closed-door scrimmages against Japan as Jones and the U-17s prepare for the CONCACAF Championship in Nicaragua beginning on April 19.

The U.S. has been drawn into Group B of the Championship where they will face Bermuda, Canada and Costa Rica. Preparation for the competition is key, as only the top three teams in the tournament will be sent to the U-17 World Cup.

Japan is one of eight countries, along with host Uruguay, to have qualified for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with three more to come from CONCACAF, three from Europe and two from South America.

Jones has earned a good track record with the U.S. as of late, starting in two of three matches at the Copa Provincia de Buenos Aires tournament where the U.S. defeated Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. Jones and the U-17s look to continue their tremendous form against Japan having tallied a 14-1-3 record in their current international cycle.
