The San Jose Earthquakes celebrated South San Jose as part of the 2018 Neighborhood Night series, presented by Wells Fargo, at the match on April 14 against the Houston Dynamo.

As part of the celebrations, the Quakes recognized three members of South San Jose for their devotion to their neighborhood: Kathleen Clarke, Aracely Garcia and Brian Gurney.

Clarke is the Aquatics Director at ClubSport San Jose at Silver Creek Sportsplex, is a longtime South San Jose resident. She has taught hundreds of kids to swim and be safe in the water. Through ClubSport San Jose, she donates swim scholarships to worthy students.

Garcia is the library assistant at the Santa Teresa Branch Library, and has been for the last five years. She played an instrumental role in organizing the Storytime with the San Jose Earthquakes on April 7, in which midfielder Chris Wehan read Froggy Plays Soccer to a group of 50 children.

Gurney is the vice president of the South San Jose Youth Soccer League, serving hundreds of kids between the U-8 and U-14 levels.

The Neighborhood Night series recognizes and celebrates the micro communities that make up San Jose. The next neighborhood recognized in the series is Evergreen on Saturday, May 5 against the Portland Timbers.
