NEWS: Avaya Stadium to Host Club America vs. Monarcas Morelia on July 8

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that Avaya Stadium will host a friendly match between Mexican sides Club América and Monarcas Morelia on Sunday, July 8, as part of Tour Aguila. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.

An exclusive presale for Earthquakes Season Pass Holders will begin on Thursday, May 24 at 10 a.m. PT before being made available to the general public on Tuesday, May 29 at 9 a.m. PT. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, the Avaya Stadium box office or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

Prior to the match, there will be a Fan Fest outside the stadium beginning at 12:30 p.m., presented by Toyota, consisting of live music, food, team mascot, championship trophies and an autograph session from a Club América legend.

Club América possesses more than 100 years of history and is widely considered the nation’s most successful team. The club has 12 league championships and five Copa MX titles. América has also won a record seven CONCACAF Champions League crowns, most recently in 2016, among several other international honors. América has appeared at Avaya Stadium twice in the past, taking on the Earthquakes in 2015 and Morelia in 2017.

Monarcas Morelia, founded in 1924, won their first and only Liga MX title in 2000. Morelia also won Copa MX in 2013, while finishing as the runner-up twice, including last season. July’s match marks Morelia’s fourth all-time appearance at Avaya Stadium.

Avaya Stadium has hosted seven prior matches between two Liga MX sides in the past, most recently featuring the same two clubs last March, with América claiming a 2-0 victory.
