QUAKES NOTES: Crucial Open Cup Stats in Quakes History

Road Warriors

As San Jose heads to Portland for Wednesday’s Fourth Round contest, they will be seeking their first Open Cup win on the road since defeating the Timbers 2-0 in 2005.

Historic Run

In 2017, the Quakes reached the semifinals after defeating the San Francisco Deltas 2-0, Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 and LA Galaxy 3-2. The Quakes would end up losing in the semifinals to Sporting Kansas City, the eventual champions of the 2017 U.S. Open Cup.

Portland Expansion

Before the Portland Timbers became an MLS expansion team in 2011, they played in the United Soccer League where the Quakes defeated them twice in U.S. Open Cup play (July 14, 2004 3-0; Aug. 3, 2005 2-0).

U.S. Open Cup

San Jose has a 17-14 all-time record in U.S. Open Cup play, outscoring their opponents 51-31.
