On November 28, 2016, the soccer world was shocked to learn that the plane carrying Associação Chapecoense de Futebol had crashed on their way to the final of the Copa Sudamericana, killing all but 6 of the 77 passengers on board.

Tonight, a documentary film called Nossa Chape will show at AMC Mercado in Sunnyvale which covers the rebuilding of a club that was left with only three surviving players after the horrific incident.

Earthquakes Head Scout Bruno Costa, a Brazilian, had the following to say about the crash:

“It was shocking, because I lost people that I knew, players that I worked with in the past. It could have happened to any of us. There were reporters, there were people from the federation on that plane who were going to the game. It’s something everyone will be talking about for a long time.”

“Chapecoense became the second club for many Brazilians after this situation. Everyone has their first team, but the soccer fans in Brazil united, other clubs started helping out by loaning players as they lost their players and they had to rebuild themselves. The whole nation and community embraced the team.”
