ACADEMY: Jones, Fontana, Feature in pair of U-17 WNT matches

U-17 WNT - Mia Fontana

Quakes Academy players Sophie Jones and Mia Fontana have completed their stay in South Korea with the United States U-17 Womenā€™s National Team. The U-17s faced the hosts on Aug. 18 and Aug. 21, in preparation for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Womenā€™s World Cup, which will take place in Uruguay in November.

Jones was one of 13 players on the U-17sā€™ 24-player roster that helped the U.S. qualify for the World Cup by winning the 2018 CONCACAF U-17 Womenā€™s Championship this past June.

On Aug. 18, the U.S. began their two-match series with a 4-4 draw against South Korea. Fontana started and played 46 minutes for the U-17s. Jones did not feature in the match.

On Aug. 21, the U.S. fought back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against the hosts in their second and final match. Jones started for the U-17s and would go on to play the full 90 minutes. Fontana did not feature.

Jones and Fontana are currently listed on the Earthquakes U-17 Girlsā€™ Academy roster and will begin their 2018-19 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season on Sept. 1. In the 2017-18 season, Jones and Fontana led the U-17 Girlsā€™ Academy to a 24-6-1 regular-season record and a semifinal finish in the USSDA Championships.
