MATCH STORYLINES: What you need to know for Quakes vs. Sporting KC

Chris Wondolowski - Goal of the Week - Sporting KC - 2018

UEFA Nations League

Earthquakes players Jahmir Hyka (Albania), Vako and Guram Kashia (Georgia) participated in the UEFA Nations League, a new international competition in Europe. In Albania’s first match, Hyka delivered the game-winning assist in their 1-0 win over Israel. Albania fell 2-0 to Scotland in their second match. Georgia are the leaders of their group after defeating Kazakhstan 2-0 and Latvia 1-0. Vako and Kashia started both matches for Georgia.

Home Field Advantage

When playing Sporting Kansas City at home, the Earthquakes have a 16-5-7 overall record, including a 2-1-1 record at Avaya Stadium.

Lending a Hand

Wondolowski currently has five assists in 2018 after posting eight last season. His 13 assists since the start of the 2017 season are the most of any two-year span in his career.

Rare Accomplishment

Danny Hoesen (10G, 4A), Vako (9G, 5A) and Chris Wondolowski (8G, 5A) are all approaching the 10-goal, five-assist mark in 2018. The last two times the Quakes had a player other than Wondolowski record 10+ goals and 5+ assists in a single season were Alan Gordon in 2012 (13G, 7A) and Landon Donovan in 2003 (12G, 6A). Wondolowski accomplished the feat in 2017 (13G, 8A) and 2012 (27G, 7A).

Double-Digit Scorers

Should Vako score one more goal this season or Wondolowski score two, it would give the Quakes multiple double-digit goal-scorers in a single season for just the fourth time in club history (1996, 1997, 2012). Only the New York Red Bulls, Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake currently have two players with 10 or more goals this season.

Homegrown Minutes

Quakes defender Nick Lima has played 2,419 minutes this season, the most of any Homegrown Player in club history. The second and third highest single-season totals are Lima in 2017 (1,809) and Tommy Thompson in 2017 (1,534).
