NEWS: Godoy and Cummings Called to Panama National Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes defender Harold Cummings and midfielder Anibal Godoy have been called up to the Panama National Team by interim head coach Gary Stempel for international friendlies against Japan and South Korea.


On Oct. 12, Panama will take on Japan at Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata City, Japan, and four days later on Oct. 16 will face South Korea at Cheonan Stadium in Cheonan, South Korea. Panama most recently faced Venezuela in an international friendly on Sept. 11, where they fell 2-0.


Godoy, 28, started and played the full 90 minutes against Venezuela on Sept. 11, and started all three matches for Panama at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, facing international powers Belgium, England and Tunisia. Since making his first senior team appearance in 2010, Godoy has earned 92 caps for Panama, scoring one goal and providing four assists.


Cummings, 26, was also called up to the Panama National Team to compete in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, making an appearance in the match against Tunisia. Cummings has made 53 appearances for the Panama National Team since earning his first cap at 18 years old in 2010, featuring against sides such as Brazil, Mexico, Chile and the United States. He also helped Panama qualify for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.


Godoy and Cummings will be available for the Quakes match on Oct. 6 against the New York Red Bulls and will join the Panama National Team following the game.
