Kevin Moore - Devotion Scarf

You’re officially a Quakes Devotion Scarf recipient! Explain what it means to you to get this honor?

Having seen the type of person/fan that has been selected to receive a Devotion Scarf in the past, knowing many personally, to be included with them is an incredible honor.

Talk to us about your Quakes fandom. How long have you been cheering on the black & blue? What is your most memorable moment?

In 2008 I was asked to be involved with the return of the Quakes. To be honest I was not a fan of soccer, but I was immediately drawn into the family. Everyone wanted me to understand what is meant to support this club. I very quickly saw the passion and love for the game and the Quakes that I hadn't really seen anywhere else. The club and the fan base had a connection that was so much more than I had ever experienced in other professional sports.

Knowing that I was new to it all, Frank Yallop had a conversation with me about goals. He told me that if I ever realized how difficult it was to get a goal and how much work it is to stop them, I would learn to truly understand everyone's passion for the game. A few weeks later in 2008 Kansas City came to Buck Shaw. We gave up an equalizer in the second half. Maybe for the first time I felt actual sorrow at a game. Then Darren Huckerby scored the game winner pretty late. At that point in the celebration I realized what he meant. I know that this is the exact moment that my real fandom began. Like everyone else in the club it became more than a job.

Who is your favorite Quakes player and why?

I don't think that I can choose one. Having known so many of them personally, it would be like asking a brother to pick his favorite sibling.

What would be your message to Quakes fans out there?

I have spent my entire adult life in professional sports. I hope you know how special this club is. The connection to the community and the fans is not something that is found very often.
