Mini Pitch - 2018

NEWS: Quakes to Unveil New Mini-Pitch at Arena Green Park on Thursday

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes, MLS WORKS, San Jose’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) and the U.S. Soccer Foundation will unveil a new mini-pitch at Arena Green Park in San Jose Thursday afternoon. The mini-pitch is the second of 2018 for the Quakes, who earlier this year unveiled a mini-pitch at Hornet Field in Alameda. The Quakes have now supported the construction of three mini-pitches in the Bay Area since 2016.

What: The mini-pitch will offer children in San Jose a safe place to play, while providing a soccer environment that encourages unstructured play with local communities and supporting the continued growth of the game in North America.

Who: The ceremony will include brief remarks from:

Jed Mettee, Executive Vice President, San Jose Earthquakes

Neil Rufino, Deputy Director, San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services

Bruno Marchesi, California State Director, U.S. Soccer Foundation

Local girls and boys from PRNS’ Roosevelt Community Center and the Earthquakes youth academy will take the ceremonial first kick with players and executives. An inaugural youth scrimmage on the new pitch will follow the ceremony. San Jose Earthquakes players will serve as celebrity coaches for the match.

Where: Arena Green Park, 345 W. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95113

When: Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 from 4-5 p.m.
