RENO 1868 FC UPDATE: Reno gets big win against Sacramento

Reno 1868 FC forward Corey Hertzog tallied a brace in Reno’s 2-2 draw against Tulsa Roughnecks FC and earned USL Championship Team of the Week honors for Week 9. The forward then contributed two goals in Saturday night’s 4-1 thrashing over Sacramento Republic FC at Papa Murphy’s Park. It was the first Donner Pass Derby of 2019, and Hertzog’s efforts helped improve Reno’s all-time record against Sacramento Republic FC to 4-1-2. Hertzog is now at four goals and three assists this season.

Forward Brian Brown and midfielder Raul Mendiola each also scored for Reno on Saturday, while Quakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski featured in the Starting XI and earned the win.

Reno made a pair of important announcements prior to their road match at Papa Murphy’s Park. The club announced the signing of goalkeepers Dominik Jakubek and Sean Bieker, both pending league and federation approval. Jakubek joins Reno after playing for Sacramento Republic FC from 2014-2016, and Bieker had spent time with Reno 1868 FC in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Reno also announced that they will be hosting Club America’s U-20 team at Greater Nevada Field on Friday, July 12. It will mark the third year in a row in which Reno host a Liga MX-affiliated club.

Reno are back at Papa Murphy’s Park on Wednesday, May 15 (7:30 p.m. PT) for another matchup against Sacramento Republic FC, this time in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Reno resume their regular season schedule in the USL Championship on Saturday, May 18 when they face the Tacoma Defiance on the road before returning to Greater Nevada Field to take on Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday, June 1. Kickoff for Saturday’s road match at Cheyney Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
