On Tuesday morning, the San Jose Earthquakes announced the acquisition of Argentine forward Andres Rios. Here are five things to know about the Quakes’ newest player:
1. Rios joins the Earthquakes after helping his previous side, Racing Club, lift the 2018-19 Superliga Argentina title after finishing the season with a record of 17-2-6.
2. Rios is well-traveled throughout the Americas, having played for Vasco de Gama in Brazil, River Plate, Defensa y Justicia, and Racing Club in his native Argentina, Deportivo Cuenca in Ecuador, and Leones Negros and Club America in Mexico. Rios also had a 12-month stint in Europe with Polish champions Wisla Krakow.
3. Rios began his career at the youth ranks of River Plate. During his time at the powerhouse club, Rios played with and under Earthquakes head coach Matias Almeyda.
4. Rios had a breakout season at Deportivo Cuenca, where he recorded 21 and eight assists in 40 appearances. He was one of only three players in the league to score 20+ goals that season and one of only four players to record a hat trick.
5. On the international stage, Rios made 10 appearances and tallied two goals for the Argentina U-20s.
