FANTASY: Lining up with the Quakes in Week 23

Magnus Eriksson - 2019 - MTL

Saturday, August 3, saw the Quakes extend their home unbeaten streak to 10 games and remain unbeaten in their last five games overall. The Quakes and Crew SC settled for a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes with goals from Magnus Eriksson and Gyasi Zardes. The Quakes were unfortunate not to come away with all three points on the night, but the single point elevated the Quakes into third place in the Western Conference. The point also gave the Quakes an identical record to second-place Minnesota United FC and fourth-place Seattle Sounders.

Now the Quakes have their eyes set for another matchup against Colorado on the weekend. The last time they played the Rapids, the Quakes came away with a 3-1 win with Vako and Salinas finding the back of the net. Colorado finds themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference at the moment, but just last week, the Rapids pummeled Montreal 6-3. With that being said, the Quakes shouldn’t take this game lightly.

So, now let’s take a look at which Quakes players should make it into your fantasy lineup:

Being that the Quakes are playing away from home, it may be wise to focus more on the offensive players the Quakes have to offer. Based on the performances from the past couple weeks, Magnus Eriksson ($10.2m) and Vako ($9.2m) are still obvious choices for midfielders. Against an inconsistent side like Colorado, these players can notch a goal and/or assist if the Quakes impose their style of play on the Rapids. Since their price tags are bit stiff, the decision left to you will be which player to include in your lineup. Including both in your lineup is possible, but might not be ideal due to constraints on your budget. Both Vako and Eriksson are big contributors to the teams offensive prowess and each have their specialties. Eriksson has the second most assists for the Quakes (6) while Vako has the second most goals (7). Either would be a great choice for your fantasy team.

Danny Hoesen ($6m) and Chris Wondolowski ($7m) are the two options up top for the Earthquakes coming into the match against Colorado. Both are good budget forwards for anyone that needs to fill in their squads. Again, going against this Colorado squad can be fruitful for either Hoesen or Wondolowski to bag a goal or two. However, the challenge you’ll face is deciding which one will be the starter.
