FEATURE: Earthquakes to Host Portuguese Heritage Night on Aug. 31

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will host their seventh annual Portuguese Heritage Night, presented by PG&E, at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 31 when the club hosts Orlando City SC at 7:15 p.m.

A special ticket package can be purchased here for $32, which includes a custom Portuguese Heritage Night tote bag. A portion of all special event tickets will be donated to a college fund for the children of Portuguese community member and Quakes fan Xavier Souto, who tragically passed away in a shooting in Morgan Hill this past June. Xavier’s son Anthony will be kicking the ceremonial first goal.


Fans will be treated to a live pregame performance by Portuguese artists Azores Band of Escalon outside of the main gate. The Azores Band of Escalon was founded in 1980 by local Portuguese immigrants with the desire to maintain the musical traditions of their homeland. A traditional folkloric dance will be performed by Luso YC 18 from Gustine/Los Banos. The Rooster of Barcelos mascot will also be present and entertaining fans.


Orlando midfielder Nani is one of Portugal’s most legendary players. His playing career includes stints with many of the world’s biggest clubs, including Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon, England’s Manchester United, Spain’s Valencia, Italy’s Lazio and Turkey’s Fenerbahce. He has also scored 23 goals in 112 appearances for the Portugal National Team, and helped his nation win the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
