RENO 1868 FC: Familiar names help to secure the 2019 Silver State Cup

Reno 1868 FC defeated rivals Las Vegas Lights FC 2-0 on Saturday night at Cashman Field, securing the 2019 Silver State Cup and a guaranteed home playoff match on Saturday, Oct. 26. Saturday’s win sees Reno join FC Cincinnati as only the second club in USL history to register 50 wins in a span of three seasons. 1868 FC also matched its franchise record for wins in a single season (17) with one match remaining in their 2019 regular-season schedule.


Quakes goalkeeper Matt Bersano and midfielders Eric Calvillo and Kevin Partida were featured in the Starting XI for Reno. Quakes midfielders Siad Haji and Gilbert Fuentes entered the match as second-half substitutes.


1868 FC took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute after forcing Las Vegas to concede an own goal. Haji tallied his first professional goal in the 76th minute, securing a 2-0 win for 1868 FC. Partida was credited with the assist on Haji’s goal, his first of the season.


Matt Bersano recorded his fourth shutout this season, Reno’s eighth in 2019 and second straight in league play. 1868 FC earned back-to-back shutout wins over Las Vegas in 2019, improving to 3-0-2 in all-time matchups against their rivals.


1868 FC will play their final regular-season match at ONEOK Field when they face Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday, Oct. 19. Saturday’s match is set for 1 p.m. PT and will be live streamed on ESPN+.
