ACADEMY: U.S. Soccer Development Academy suspends matches

2019 - Luciano Fusco - U-15 Boys

CHICAGO (March 12, 2020) - The U.S. Soccer Development Academy has suspended all Boys' and Girls' regular season matches through the end of April, and canceled the 2020 Allstate Development Academy Spring Cup to be held April 29-May 4 in Kansas City, Mo. and Greensboro, N.C., as a precaution against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). This decision was made in order to limit potential exposure to the Coronavirus and to best protect the health and well-being of all individuals participating or attending DA fixtures and events.
U.S. Soccer has been closely monitoring the public health developments across the country and communicating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding COVID-19 here in the United States and internationally. Clubs should contact and seek guidance from their local health departments before making decisions regarding training sessions and other team activities to ensure the safety and well-being of their stakeholders.
"With the health of our players, coaches, staff and fans as our main priority, U.S. Soccer has decided it was in the best interest to cancel the Spring Cup events in Kansas City and Greensboro as well as suspend all regular season DA matches through April due to the outbreak of COVID-19," said U.S. Soccer Chief Medical Officer George Chiampas. "We have been in communication with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local departments of public health, and after those conversations and continuously monitoring the situation, we strongly believe this is the best decision considering the ongoing worldwide health situation."
In addition to the cancellation of Development Academy events, U.S. Soccer has cancelled numerous upcoming events as a precaution. The most up-to-date information about U.S. Soccer event and match cancellations can be found on ussoccer.com and our social media channels.
