COMMUNITY: PG&E's Jason Thompson goes above and beyond to ensure employee safety

2020 - Thompson - front line

The Quakes and Wells Fargo are humbled and inspired by the amazing work of our frontline communities and neighbors in this time of crisis. Each week, we’ll be featuring and highlighting the work of one fantastic neighborhood hero, showcasing the great work they are doing and the organizations our community can rally around.

Additionally, a donation will be made to an organization or community project on behalf of each week’s hero. This week we will be donating to Mended Little Hearts.

The need for power and gas in our homes and businesses has always been a critical need, but now more than ever we need those services to be consistent and uninterrupted.

The folks at PG&E are working hard to ensure our communities are covered.

Jason Thompson, Safety Lead for PG&E’s central coast region, has been as busy as ever. Jason is one of the many diligent, hard working and committed PG&E employees that have embraced early mornings and busy work days to ensure the community’s needs are being met during a very challenging time.

Jason’s day often begins at 5 a.m. His morning phone meeting covers the events of the previous day, and what projects lie ahead for the current day. Jason then makes his rounds between job sites to make sure gas crews are working safely and that job sites are running smoothly. Jason interacts with various local crews to best understand their tasks and obstacles.

Since COVID, there have been some changes to the workflow and required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). PG&E teams are now expected to wear face masks, use hand sanitizer, and wipes. They need to ensure their jobs can be done in the safest way possible.

“We've gone through great lengths to make sure our employees have everything they need for the job they’re performing,” says Jason.

Jason encourages everyone to be patient in this process by following CDC and state guidelines, as everyone plays a part in the community’s safety.

“We want our customers to know that safety is our number one priority,” says Jason.
