DEVOTION SCARF: Eric Hanninen

Eric Hanninen – Eric Hanninen was a longtime employee who worked with the Earthquakes organization for over nine years. Eric’s career with the Quakes started in the sales department in 2010, where he excelled in season ticket and group sales. His performance would see him climb the ranks to manager roles of different departments and ultimately becoming the executive assistant of the organization’s executive team. Later promoted to Chief of Staff in 2019, Eric assisted the executive team with strategy work and participated in various initiative groups towards the growth and development of the organization. His drive and love for the Quakes inspired him to devote his time, work and energy towards the club and support the team by participating in related events and traveling to road games. Eric continues to be an active advocate of the club, residing in San Jose with his wife and newborn daughter.

You're officially a Quakes Devotion Scarf recipient! Explain what it means to you to get this honor?

For me, it's a great honor because anyone that knows me fully understands that I didn't just work for the club for nearly a decade, I gave everything I had to the club for nearly a decade. I was a member of the Devotion Scarf selection committee for years so I feel validated and honored to join this specific circle from within the Earthquakes Family, I know that you have to earn it!

Talk to us about your Quakes fandom. How long have you been cheering on the black and blue? What is your most memorable moment?

I have been cheering on the black and blue since I arrived here in 2010 to work for the club. There are many memorable moments (both at home and traveling to watch us on the road) but nothing tops the 2013 comeback vs LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium. The away fans weren't just sad, they were devastated. Ya love to see it.

Who is your favorite Quakes player and why?

Sorry, but I am picking two. Chris Wondolowski and Victor Bernardez. Those two personify everything that it means to put on the Quakes crest/shirt, they leave it all on the pitch every match and play with genuine passion. Legends.

What would be your message to Quakes fans out there?

This club is about so much more than on-field results, it's a family and we are all here to support each other in both the sportive and personal sense. Game Day was always very busy for me as an employee so I can't wait to start attending games as a fan, who wants to meet up for a beer? Go Quakes!
