NEWS: Earthquakes renew loan for Oswaldo Alanis

2020 - Alanis loan

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes today announced that the club has renewed the loan for defender Oswaldo Alanis from Mexico’s Chivas de Guadalajara for the 2021 season.

“Oswaldo’s impact was noticeable from the very start of the season and that was felt on the pitch and inside the locker room,” said Earthquakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli. “He set a high bar for the way he reads the game and for the way he leads by example. As we agreed on terms with Chivas last year, our goal was to count on Oswaldo beyond 2020, and we’re excited that he will continue to play an important role for us next season.”

Alanis, 31, is entering his second season with San Jose. He tallied two goals and one assist in 14 appearances, all starts, in 2020. The Morelia, Mex. native made an immediate impact by scoring a goal and tallying an assist in his MLS debut, later contributing a goal in the team’s dramatic 4-3 comeback win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 15.

Alanís has scored two goals in 23 appearances for the Mexico National Team, most recently appearing in a friendly against the United States in September of 2018. He helped Mexico win the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup, appearing in all three knockout round matches, and was also on the team during Copa America in 2011.
