NEWS: Calvillo, Fuentes called to El Salvador U-23 National Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. â€“ San Jose Earthquakes midfielders Eric Calvillo and Gilbert Fuentes have been called to participate in the El Salvador U-23 Men’s National Team camp in El Salvador. The camp will serve as preparation ahead of Olympic qualifying in March.


Calvillo, 23, has represented the United States at the U-15, U-17 and U-19 levels, including being named to the United States’ 21-man roster at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. The Palmdale, Calif. native signed with San Jose prior to the 2018 season. He has since made four starts in 11 MLS appearances, setting single-season career-highs in minutes (184), appearances (6), and assists (1) in 2020, as well as making his first MLS postseason appearance against Sporting Kansas City on Nov. 22.


Fuentes, 18, signed a Homegrown Player contract with San Jose prior to the 2018 season, becoming the youngest signing in club history at the time (15 years, 339 days). Fuentes has made three MLS appearances, and another 16 appearances on loan with former USL Championship affiliate Reno 1868 FC. The Tracy, Calif. native has previously represented the United States at the U-15, U-16 and U-17 levels.


Sixteen-year-old Quakes Academy goalkeeper Damian Alguera is also in camp with the El Salvador U-23s.
