NEWS: Earthquakes Defender Marcos Lopez Called to Peru National Team for World Cup Qualifiers and Copa America

SAN JOSE, Calif. â€“ San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez has been called to the Peru National Team for several important competitive matches.


Peru will face Colombia on Thursday, June 3 (2 p.m. PT) and Ecuador on Tuesday, June 8 (5 p.m. PT) as part of qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.


Peru will then face Brazil on Thursday, June 17 (5 p.m. PT), Colombia on Sunday, June 20 (5 p.m. PT), Ecuador on Wednesday, June 23 (2 p.m. PT), and Venezuela on Sunday, June 27 (2 p.m. PT) during the Group Stage of Copa America 2021. Should Peru advance out of the Group Stage, the Knockout Stage runs from July 2-10.


With original host nations Argentina and Colombia experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases, Copa America 2021 was moved to Brazil.


Lopez, 21, has made four prior appearances for the Peru National Team. He was called to Peru’s FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures last year, making an appearance against Paraguay. The Callao, Peru native has tallied two goals and three assists in 36 career appearances for the Earthquakes.
