MATCH RECAP: Earthquakes 2, C.D. Olimpia 2

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes and C.D. Olimpia of Honduras played to a 2-2 draw in an international friendly on Saturday night at PayPal Park. San Jose opened the scoring early with a third-minute goal from Cade Cowell, with Matthew Hoppe subsequently doubling the first-half lead at the outset of stoppage time. However, C.D. Olimpia responded with a goal of their own moments later before the halftime whistle and equalized six minutes into the second half for the final tally.

The Earthquakes will now return to MLS action to play Austin FC on Saturday, October 21 for Decision Day. The match will kick off from PayPal Park at 6:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on MLS Season Pass (Apple TV), as well as on local radio via 810 AM The Spread (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

GAME NOTES 

The Earthquakes now hold an 11-11-14 all-time record in international exhibitions, including a 2-0-1 record against C.D. Olimpia.

Keegan Tingey and Oscar Verhoeven made their first professional debuts tonight. Both players signed with San Jose earlier this year.

Matthew Hoppe registered a goal and an assist tonight, running his streak to three goals and one assist in his last five matches across all competitions.

Benji Kikanović contributed to both San Jose goals, amassing two assists.

Two days after being named to the MLS’ 22 Under 22 list, Cade Cowell scored the opening goal for the Quakes in the third minute.
